17 August 17Hope Terdich

DUSA supports the rights of every Australian to choose who they marry, regardless of their or their partner's gender. Today we want to reiterate that stance, and offer our support to the queer community in this troubling political climate.

Our university is one that values inclusion and diversity, and we are committed to ensuring our university community is safe and supportive for all of our students.

Recently, the federal government has called for a postal plebiscite on marriage equality. Traditionally, these postal ballots have underrepresented the voice and vote of young people - and it’s time to change that.

To impact change, we need to vote.

Registration to vote closes at 6pm Thursday 24 August, so we all need to make sure we’re enrolled to vote and have updated our addresses. This can be done online .

We acknowledge that some queer students are feeling scared or overwhelmed, and we want you to know that DUSA supports you and will be behind you every step of the way.

Next week DUSA will be on our campuses to make sure that all of our students can make their voices heard. We’ll be helping students check their enrolment, change their address, and enrol.

You can find us in a central area between 11 and 2 at:

  • Burwood on the 21st and 22nd
  • Warrnambool on the 21st and 22nd
  • Waurn Ponds on the 22nd and 23rd
  • Waterfront on the 22nd and 23rd

Look for your Student Representatives in black tees and our rainbow flags.
