Southern University Games Blog 2

The Deakin University Hockey Club have penned a blog describing their experiences at Southern University Games. Go Dragons!

After winning the 2014 Deakin Spirit Award, we as Deakin University Hockey Club - fondly known as DUHC - are hoping to reflect the same contagious, high-energy spirit that we practiced so well in Albury and Sydney.

The girls have a reputation to uphold after being undefeated up until the grand final at SUGS last year in Albury, as we hope to bring home gold in Adelaide. We've had a slow start to the games with two extremely close losses against RMIT and USA, 2-1 and 3-2 respectively. The third and fourth games saw us defeat VU 8-0 and La Trobe 4-0 as we got our 2014 rhythm back. With key players graduating and many new faces in the team we hope to defeat RMIT in our semi final and sustain an undefeated second-half of our tournament in order to come away with the gold we nearly had in 2014.

The boys have also had a slow start to the games, going down hard against strong units RMIT and Monash, as well as USA and La Trobe. In true DUHC spirit the boys never give up, coming away with a satisfying win against VU in their third match of the day.

We as DUHC's are a big family of respect, support and banter, which is evident on and off the field, during the day and also into the night.

DUSA wishes everyone competing at SUG's good luck!
