Supraja Srinivasan

General Secretary

Hi my name is Supraja Srinivasan

Hello! I’m Supraja, a Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar who recently completed my Bachelor’s and am now pursuing Honours in Cancer Immunology. My name means “the goodness of all people” in Sanskrit, and while I don’t claim to be perfect, I try to live up to it by creating a student community where everyone feels supported, included, and valued.

My journey in student advocacy began with a simple idea: students thrive best when they feel connected and cared for. This led me to founding the Deakin International Students Association, an initiative to bridge the gap between international and domestic students. I’ve seen firsthand how even small gestures such as listening, offering support, or creating opportunities to connect can transform a student’s university experience.

As General Secretary of DUSA, my focus is on fostering student wellbeing in all its forms. I work to expand services that support financial security, such as food pantries, survival centres, and short courses, while advocating for improvements in university policies, including assignment extensions, student conduct, and access to better campus resources. My aim is to make Deakin a place where students can not only study but truly thrive.

Outside of advocacy, I love bringing energy and joy to campus life. You’ll usually find me in cafés with one (or two) matchas in hand, sharing a laugh over dad jokes or discussing anything from medicine to life’s little curiosities. I love dancing, karaoke (off-tune singing included), and connecting with students from all backgrounds. I firmly believe that shared laughter and shared experiences are as important as shared ideas.

I hope to meet as many students as possible, whether you want to get involved in DUSA, discuss ways to improve student life, or simply hang out and share a laugh. Deakin is more than a place to study; it’s a community, and I am committed to helping make it as positive, inclusive, and vibrant as it can be.
