We have qualified and experienced advocates who are ready to offer you confidential advice and support. We are here to listen to your concerns, advise and assist you with your academic and personal matters.

Student Advocacy & Support Service (SASS)

Many students face issues or difficulties during their university studies. DUSA employs qualified and experienced Advocates who offer confidential advice and support. Advocates will listen to your concerns and assist you with your academic and personal matters.

When accessing the service, your Advocate will work together with you to assess your situation and discuss possible courses of action. Advocates can assist with your response to the relevant faculty or section of the University, as well as review draft letters and accompany you to meetings or hearings.

If we are unable to work through your problems with you, we will help you find the service you need. Our student-oriented team is always available and willing to assist you.

HDR Students: Advocates can provide support and advice regarding a range of academic matters, including:

  • Progress Management Panel
  • Proposal to Exclude/Terminate from Candidature
  • Research Progress and Supervision Issues
  • General Misconduct
  • Academic Integrity Breach Allegations
  • Research Integrity Breach Allegations
  • Concerns and Complaints
  • Intermission

For Advocates to best assist you with academic matters, please attach relevant documents to your enquiry. Possible documents include:

  • A copy of your academic result history
  • Faculty or UAC letters including attachments
  • Copies of emails and correspondence with faculty members regarding the issue
  • Medical Certificate/s and any other relevant documents

FAQs

Advocates are available on each campus Monday to Friday only. They aim to respond to all emails within 24 hours. During peak service times, where advocates have appointments booked all day, reply times may be a little longer. Your query will be responded to, so please do not send multiple emails or phone calls. Advocates will respond to you! Once you have made initial contact with an advocate, you can contact them directly for the duration of your case.

Advocates can assist with all manner of concerns and queries of students. If you need advice on any issue, we can either assist you or refer you to internal or external providers who are best suited to help you.

Yes, the Advocates are conducting phone meetings, unfortunately there are no face-to-face meetings at this time.

Sometimes students ask questions that are not in relation to Academic Integrity, or the DUSA Advocates require further information so that they can answer the question. If you see your question here, we recommend contacting the DUSA Advocates. They can provide you with support regarding your circumstances and/or help you find the service you need.
