Deakin WIL Support Scheme
The WIL Student Support Scheme is an equity initiative that supports increased access, participation and success within WIL commitments through the provision of financial assistance (eligibility criteria applies).

Deakin Scholarships
Deakin has many scholarships on offer. Sometimes different courses and faculties have scholarships specifically designed to support students with placement costs, such as industry-specific equipment or relocation expenses. Explore their webpage to see if there are any scholarships related to your course/placement that you may be eligible to apply for.

National Association of Field Experience Administrators (NAFEA) Equity Rural Placement Scholarship Program
NAFEA provides a limited number of scholarships at various times of the year to support eligible students experiencing financial hardship to undertake placements/work integrated learning activities in rural and remote settings. integrated learning activities in rural and remote settings.

Travel Cost Support

Transport Assistance Program
If you are have to travel a long distance for your mandatory placement or university commitments, and meet certain eligibility requirements, you may be able to apply for support with public transport or Deakin-related parking costs.

Fares Allowance Payment
If you have to travel a long distance for your mandatory placement or university commitments, and meet certain eligibility requirements, you may be able to apply for financial support with travel fare expenses.

DeakinTALENT’s Freelancing Hub
DeakinTALENT has a freelancing hub specifically designed to match students undergoing credit-bearing WIL units with potential host organisations and/or internship opportunities. Find out more their services and offerings via the link above.

Advocacy Support
If you are experiencing difficulties during your WIL unit, DUSA’s Advocates can assist you by providing a private and confidential space to discuss concerns that may be affecting your WIL experience. This may include support with interpersonal issues, assistance in raising concerns with relevant university or placement staff, and guidance on appropriate pathways for resolving issues.

While Advocates are unable to assist students in sourcing or securing a placement, they may be able to support you in communicating any difficulties you are experiencing to the relevant university staff and identifying appropriate avenues for assistance.

Clothing Support

FutureFit

If you need some new clothes for WIL interviews, internships or placements, DeakinTalent runs a clothing hub called FutureFit who may be able to help. FutureFit provides business and work attire to students who need it, and has physical clothing hubs located at Burwood and Waurn Ponds campuses, as well as virtual appointment options.
