We are happy to announce joint winners for April’s DUSA Club Event of the Month!
Congratulations to the Deakin Occupational Therapist Student Association from Geelong for their Paint and Sip event, and to the Deakin Volunteering Hub from Burwood for their Blood Donation Day and BBQ event. Read on below to learn more!
Deakin Occupational Therapist Student Association (DOTSA) | DOTSA Paint and Sip
The first ever Paint and Sip hosted by DOTSA brought together Occupational Therapy students across different year levels (many of whom had never met before) for an evening of creativity and connection. One of the standout moments of the night was when everyone got up to admire each other’s artwork. This spontaneous interaction sparked conversations and created a strong sense of unity and support among attendees.
The Paint and Sip wasn’t just a social gathering, it reflected the very essence of occupational therapy. Through meaningful engagement in a leisure activity, students experienced firsthand the power of occupation in supporting wellbeing, identity, and community. From a club perspective, the sold-out event had a fantastic turnout and received overwhelmingly positive feedback. The DOTSA Paint and Sip was a memorable experience that brought people together in the most creative way possible.
Deakin Volunteering Hub (DVH) | DVH's Blood Donation Day and BBQ
DVH's Blood Donation Day event was a huge success with 50 students attending, and of those, 36 were eligible to donate blood. After the donating part was over, everyone enjoyed a barbecue to celebrate their amazing group effort.
From just this one event alone, they were able to achieve something amazing – they helped move Deakin from fourth to first place on the Lifeblood Camberwell leaderboard for blood donations! Based on the incredible response, DVH are planning to make this a regular event every two months, to continue saving lives and building a stronger, more compassionate student community.
