Congratulations to Deakin Engineering Society from Geelong for their DES Annual Industry Dinner 2026, and to Deakin Cambodian Club from Burwood for their DCC Educational Movie Night. Read on below to learn more about both events.

Deakin Engineering Society | DES Annual Industry Dinner 2026

The Deakin Engineering Society (DES) Annual Industry Dinner brought together more than 120 engineering students, industry representatives and Deakin staff for an evening of networking, professional engagement and connection. The event was supported by 12 external organisations, creating the opportunity for students to connect directly with professionals across defence, consulting, infrastructure, manufacturing and other engineering fields, while gaining valuable insights into potential career pathways.

The evening also highlighted the significant work of the DES student committee, which coordinated sponsors, ticketing, venue arrangements, speakers, presentations, awards and event logistics over several months.

The dinner successfully strengthened connections between students and industry, providing valuable professional networking opportunities beyond the classroom.

Deakin Cambodian Club | DCC Educational Movie Night

Congratulations to Deakin Cambodian Club on their DCC Educational Movie Night event run last month as well.

Deakin Cambodian Club’s Educational Movie Night brought together almost 200 students and community members for an evening combining education, culture and community engagement. The event featured a screening of the award-winning Cambodian film Meeting with Pol Pot, providing an accessible opportunity to learn about Khmer history, reflect on Cambodia’s past and explore the experiences that continue to shape Cambodian identity.

Through external sponsorship and community support, the event was offered free to all attendees, removing financial barriers and enabling broader participation. The evening also brought together students, professionals and members of the Cambodian community, highlighting the strength of community connections around shared history and culture.

For a relatively new student club, the event represented a significant achievement. Its strong attendance, community support and educational focus demonstrated the potential of student-led initiatives to create meaningful cultural and educational experiences beyond traditional social events.
