We are happy to announce joint winners for May’s DUSA Club Event of the Month!
Congratulations to Emergency Medicine at Deakin (EMD) from Geelong for their Cardiac Arrest Nights and to the Deakin Outdoors Club (DOC) from Burwood for their Glenelg River Canoeing Trip. Read on below to learn more!
Emergency Medicine at Deakin | Cardiac Arrest Nights – Geelong & Ararat
The EMD Cardiac Arrest Nights were a resounding success, with 29 participants attending across two locations. This year marked the first time the event was held at a Deakin Medicine Rural Training School in Ararat which was great for engaging more rurally based students.
The events featured multiple hands-on simulation stations designed to build students’ confidence and competence in delivering basic life support across a range of clinical scenarios. Supported by a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and paramedics, the event provided an invaluable learning opportunity in preparation for clinical placements.
Now in its fifth consecutive year, Cardiac Arrest Night continues to champion effective basic life support training – aiming to improve the outcomes of in-hospital and out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.
Deakin Outdoors Club | Glenelg River Canoeing Trip
This event marked the club’s first time taking their annual multi-day canoeing trip to a new location – The Glenelg River! A mighty crew of 15 bonded very quickly in their canoes, as they travelled between 10-15km down river each day.
Shaded by gum trees, there was plenty of koala spotting as the group gently paddled downstream. The river was high and wide, the water cold, and the sun was shining – a perfect weekend for the event!
Attendees regularly 'rafted up', sang songs, shared stories and many laughs. Every evening, they would haul their canoes up onto the embankments and set up camp – dipping in for a swim to cool off. So many of those attending formed new friendships and it was especially positive to hear members share life experiences and even course advice.
Even though it was an exhausting weekend everyone went home feeling the best kind of tired!
DUSA has over 100 clubs across all campuses. It’s a great way to get involved in student life and meet people who share the same interests as you. You can learn more about DUSA clubs HERE.
