Welcome to our DUSA Clubs Spotlight Series where we shine a light on some of the amazing clubs we have at DUSA! The club we are profiling in this post use their knowledge and passion to make a positive contribution to global health development.
Global Village Project (GVP) has over 50 members and is a medical student led NGO based at Waurn Ponds. Read on below to learn more about GVP’s work and how it offers medical students the chance to gain practical experience while improving the health and wellbeing of vulnerable communities.
What is the aim/purpose of GVP?
We aim to provide Deakin medical students the opportunity to gain practical clinical knowledge within the community, further benefitting the healthcare and outcomes of those we partner with.
What sort of activities do you organise?
Fundraising events, such as bingo, barefoot bowls, and trivia. All funds raised go towards supporting individuals in rural India through schooling sponsorships, the provision of vaccinations and healthcare initiatives.
What have been some of the highlights so far?
In November 2025 we took a group of eight medical students, alongside two nurses, to a village in rural India. During the trip, we had the opportunity to practice medical skills, performing health checks on three local villages and at a local school, and providing MMR vaccines to the children at the school.

Any future activities being planned?
This year we hope to return to India and provide more funding to this cause.
How does being a part of GVP add to a member’s university experience?
Being part of our club allows students to feel connected to something bigger, providing important healthcare to those who would go without.
What would you say to people who may be interested in joining?
The more members we have, the greatest difference we can make. Joining GVP allows you to become involved with a likeminded group of students and know your interest is going to providing healthcare to those in India and beyond.
